Thank you for visiting WindGenZen shop,

Scroll down and you'll see 'Ye Olde Shoppe' from whence these jewels spring.

When the wind blows it can drive the tools that make new blades. There are some 15000 webpages created and shared around the world that were borne of that wind...

You're reading one right now.

Most of the blades are carved by hand. You can use belt sanders and power planes to save time, but I prefer the hand tools that don't ruin the music.

You only need about $50-$100 in tools to make these by the finest method - sharp hand tools.

And with those tools and some very hard wood that is actually much stronger and tougher than regular mohogany, as 84 Year Old Woodcarver Rod would say, 'That stuff you got there...oh...it's a lot tougher and denser than Mohogany...almost as tough as iron wood."

We drove around for years looking for this wonderful grain and compressive strength so high sometimes it'll bounce a full-force hatchet slam on a 2x2x6 end. Really tough stuff.

Our blades are very strong and beautiful...

...nature made em strong, we make them gorgeous.

A few people who have been in our shop,

Steve and Dave, sailors carving blades for their boats. Steve is getting his degree in alternative energy science. Dave is a union carpenter who can carve faster than anyone 'cept me.

And Ian and Jeremie. Jer was an autobody guy and taught me some of the finer arts of urethane, paint and color.

Steve and old Rod, two fine woodcrafters and NASA Jerry and Turbine Jet Engine Manon; she does contract work designing really fast blades for really big turbines.

There are dozens of others who have come through here and learned to make these airfoils. I teach kids other labs, so I can teach an adult this stuff pretty quickly. Drop in some time or consider a hands-on class the next time you are in San Francisco.

Have a great day and don't forget to ask your local school to start an alternative energy program...it's good for kids too!

"Old Man Rod carved this door, and while on tour in Europe after WW-II, took carving classes, one of which involved work on the Roman Forum, so when while the cuts and profiles we make may be cutting edge, the techniques used to create them stretches back several millenium indeed.

...and then old Rod toured the world as a wood and stone carver teacher.

...pretty funny work for a guy who used to be V.P. of a steel firm.

Now days he lives right next to NASA Jerry, in fact you can catch him in video.
