You can spend 1/5th to 1/10th of that if you are willing to make your own mounts and use inexpensive components. We have ametek PM motors starting at just $5.00, fat diodes for a buck, and blades starting at just $50.00!
  • Use this kit estimator to develop a rough estimate of the cost of building a wind generator system.

  • Some prices may be on special at our site and so your actual total may be less.

  • Start with just the airfoil and generator; most of the other components you can obtain locally.

  • To build a more accurate estimate, add the battery and invertor; the tower/mast should also be obtained locally as it is much cheaper than shipping large diameter steel pipe.

  • To make sure the system is capable of producing the power you expect for your wind conditions, use the Wind vs Watts calculator. This will also help you select the right airfoil diameter.

  • If you want to save even more, consider taking one of our classes and learning how to fabricate your own airfoils and mounts from scratch: you can slash your cost per amp to less than 1/10th of other systems.

  • If carving from scratch seems too difficult (it isn't), you might also consider the rough-cut-you-finish airfoils; about 1/2 the price of sanded/finished blades.
