KCK AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS ROCK!

This article features a San Francisco Lab - more labs all around the country are opening!

San Francisco Youth need a place to hang out after school. In KCK labs they learn how to build, repair and configure computers and even get to take a FREE PC HOME. If your child needs a place to be after school, please write ASAP to enroll now. The number of classes is always expanding, so we often have locations that can accept free kids for after-school programs.

WHY do we offer free classes? Kids need help. This report explains why KCK is dedicated to providing free classes, free latch-key programs and free web hosting and services to teachers, youth and family agencies.

  • If KCK is on site - the labs are free for everyone and everyone gets a free PC after completing the lab. In the class they learn to tear it apart, put it together and replace broken components and then configure it and load up software so it helps them in school.

    FREE IS GOOD!

HOWEVER: due to funding and space and number of teachers, some youth centers have limits. The following are suggestions for youth centers who have space and/or teacher issues:

  • The first 5 students in our after school program are free. To maintain their free status, the students must show up every day, help out with the labs, help tutor other students and for their hard work, they get first choice of the donated equipment to take home FREE!

  • If you can't afford to pay for an after-school program, KCK can help you locate a free class near you or help you set one up.

  • The second 5 students are $25 per month. Some youth centers use these funds for after-school/latchkey staff funding. If this is more than you can afford, let us know and we'll try to find a free class near you or help you start one.

  • To maintain the reduced rate, these students must show up at least 3 days a week, help with the lab, tutoring other kids and they get second choice of donated equipment they can take home FREE!

  • The next 5 students are $50 per month. These students also get to take home free computers and if they do well tutoring others, can be moved up to reduced or free status.

  • In addition to learning to work with computers, kids have a chance to build their own system and take it home free of charge.

  • After School program lab space donated by Auras Gallery - Marina District Classes in music, film making, painting and sculpture are also part of this after school program.

KCK labs are a blast for both teachers and students. They were designed to be entertaining, competitive and at the end of each lab the students get to take the PC they built home: FREE!

We will show you how to:
  1. Set up a small bench area: this can be as small as a 2 ft x 4 ft sheet of plywood or as elaborate as a series of long benches; one for each lab.

  2. Obtain the free PCs. Everyday communities throw away tons of used computers. We'll show you how to tap into that 'rubbish' and start a collection program for as little as 2-4 hours a month.

  3. Find the kids. This isn't difficult; lots of kids want to come to free computer labs and get a free PC and once your labs are going, word will get out and you may have to limit enrollment.

  4. Host the labs without spending a ton of staff time. The labs are designed for minimal adult input. Kids want to come to you for answers but like being left alone in the labs. Using a TUTOR system of 'Each one teach one' the labs are self-propogating and maintaint themselves with very little input from adults.

  5. Earn cash from adults who want to take the labs. Many adults spend long hours or entire semesters learning what a KCK lab teaches in a day or two. These accelerated courses attract adults who don't have 6 months to learn how to do HTML or use Word. Ten adults per month could be an extra $500.00 in your cash register.

  6. Learn about our remote coast and nature preserve programs; KCK wants to bring schools to developing regions and you can help!
