In 1983 when I began teaching mentally challenged violent teens
I knew the EDU community was struggling and it hasn't gotten any better.

for school programs, started labs for single parents and kids behind
bars who would need job skills when they got out or face a viscious
cycle of imprisonment.
We expanded those labs to children as young as 5 and seniors
as old as 87 (the record for a KCK student, but we'll beat it).
Now we are bringing the labs to your neighborhood, your back streets,
your schools, your foster homes and daycare centers and we are taking
them overseas.

Course Material and Equipment:
You will need an area about 2-3 feet deep (for a 2 foot bench),
by 4 to 8 feet long. You can start in a broom closet with shelves,
but will need to eventually build a longer bench area. A simple
painted plywood sheet with good 2x4 bracing will work.
Our favorite KCK benches are a multicolor and thickly painted (remember, we said
these labs were supposed to be wild and fun!), plywood sheet
ripped into 2 - 2x8 sheets, inserted into a 2x4 frame with 18 inch legs.
These are very inexpensive (under $25.00) and can be stacked
and secured to a wall to provide multi-level equipment storage underneath.
Chairs are optional since most folks stand (sometimes run) in KCK labs.
