THINK YOU NEED AN EXPENSIVE GRID-TIE?THINK AGAIN!
Did you know an expensive gridtie probably will NOT provide power to
the home during a blackout? Most don't. It's safer, wiser and cheaper to
wire your home with a GEN-OFF-GRID switch that you can flip manually (or
leave it in GEN position all the time if you have wind), and use your
own batteries and inverters...much more reliable and much cheaper than a gridtie
that can cost $2000.00-$5000.00.
Here are a few wiring diagrams for you to consider:
More elaborate drawings and articles include:
I usually leave my rig on automatic (diode) unless winds are ripping for days and then switch it to manual since
diodes have a .5 - 1.5 voltage loss, they get warm and eat a small amount of
power heading for the battery; all circuits between your gen and battery have losses, especially
expensive charge controllers; simple circuits with fewer components generally have
less losses and a direct hit through a 200 amp switch has the least loss.
For high amperage systems use several large diodes, each capable of 150% of the max amps,
in parallel to insure safe, long life.
Think a grid-tie home is better than an isolated circuit?
