Meet Shorty in Boston! "Hi, I'm Jeanne... I found out about the Kids Computer Kamp program while working for a hospital in Massachusettes. I wanted to learn high-tech skills, but as a single parent, I didn't have the time to work, take care of Tyler, the love of my life and go to school. With this program, I am learning the high-tech skills I want for a better career and helping battered women's shelters, youth agencies and senior centers along the way. This means I've been able to study the lab material along side with Tyler, and let him do a lot of the screw driver work while I handle the more sensitive components and while I never thought the Kids Computer Kamp program would work for someone as young as him, it has been a blast for both of us. We take the donated PCs we find on Craigslist and from other sources, fix them up and take them to the agencies that serve battered women, seniors and at-risk youth, so if you have a broken computer you want to donate, please send me an email and I'll make arrangements to pick it up from your location. If you are a large corporation and can donate larger batches of hardware as you upgrade your gear, that would be wonderful too; there are many agencies who need them and I will be happy to coordinate that at your convenience. As the hat clearly says, I do NOT pick up computers donated by Yankee fans (just kidding). I love the Boston Red Sox and on those rare occassions when I have time and a whole day free and the Red Sox are playing a home game, you just might catch me at the stadium rooting for the best team on Earth. I also love sculpture, painting and drawing and once I get all my hardware and software techie skills down pat, I'll be able to set up my own website, to display (and hopefully sell) some of my work. In the meantime, if you're s single mom out there and don't think you have the time to learn new high-tech skills, you might want to consider doing it the way I did. It's fun, it's easier on your schedule than trying to get through college and a job and take care of your children, and you get to be the teacher for your kids, rather than always being the parent, so you develop a whole new insight into working with children and your own kids, than you get picking up their socks day after day after day after day...
...but as long as they're RED SOX
then it's ok by me!"
